NUKEPROOF MEGAWATT
Designed around Nukeproof’s legendary Mega platform, the Megawatt is a long travel enduro bike with a motor. After winning multiple accolades and podiuming at the E-Enduro World Series, the Megawatt receives several key updates.
FRAME UPGRADES:
The Megawatt frame won over riders with a blend of dialled geometry and suspension kinematics. As an evolution of the Megawatt frame, Nukeproof has rerouted the brake, gear, and dropper cables to improve routine maintenance of the frame. All internal cables now run into and through the downtube in dedicated mounting points. These can be easily accessed when removing the battery.
ALL NEW SHIMANO STEPS EP801 DRIVE SYSTEM:
The heart of the Megawatt is the all-new Shimano STEPS EP801 drive system. The EP801 system is a highly controllable, high-performance power unit with a maximum torque of 85Nm. The result is a quiet motor that offers a natural ride feel with smooth power delivery. The EP801 motor also has improved heat management to allow riders to use maximum power for longer.
ALL NEW SPECIFICATIONS:
All 4 specification of Megawatt have seen specification upgrades.
The RS, Factory and Elite receive the latest SRAM T-Type AXS 12-speed group set. All AXS models feature a wide 11-52t cassette, enabling the Megawatt to climb as well as it descends. SRAM T-Type AXS is designed to allow shifting under load, ensuring a smooth shift and longer chain life for riders. All specifications come with the new AXS POD Ultimate shifter which is ergonomically designed for comfort and performance.
The Megawatt 297 RS is specified as an homage to the Nukeproof-SRAM Factory Race team specification. It features the highest tier of SRAM, RockShox, and Nukeproof components.
The Megawatt 297 Comp is specified and designed to offer incredible performance and durability. The Comp model comes specced with the 10-speed Microshift Advent-X drive train. A wide-range 11-48t cassette paired with the group’s crisp and positive shifting make this one of the best performing drivetrains in the sector. The 10-speed gear spread also has fantastic durability when combined with the Megawatt’s power.
MODERN ENDURO INSPIRED RACE GEOMETRY:
Lower, longer, steeper and slacker. The Megawatt’s geometry is designed around Nukeproof’s saddle offset principle which optimises seated weight distribution for each frame size. This results in steeper seat angles across the board but especially on larger sizes, producing longer reach figures to ensure a comfortable cockpit on each size. To further aid the perfect fit we have also used shorter seat tubes which are designed to maximise seat post insertion depths. Finally, all Megawatt bikes are designed to use short offset forks to further improve both climbing and descending capabilities.
SIZING AND WHEEL STANDARD:
Whilst humans may not have changed size much in recent years, the bikes they choose to ride most certainly have. To ensure a perfectly dialled fit we now offer the 297 bikes in S, M, L, XL and XXL.
A 29” wheel up front maximises grip and rolling efficiency whilst the 27.5” wheel out back allows the bike to run shorter chainstays, ensuring nimble handling and maximising manoeuvrability. The rear chainstays also benefit from a 3D-moulded chain guard to keep the frame protected and running quiet.
PROGRESSIVE, SUPPLE AND SUPPORTIVE 4-BAR HORST SUSPENSION PLATFORM
The Megawatt uses a 4-bar Horst linkage designed to be super supple over small bumps while remaining progressive through the mid-stoke for support when pedalling, cornering, and pumping. There’s also increased end-stroke leverage to allow more tuning options with volume spacers. The kinematic is designed to have higher levels of anti-squat for climbing gears, but this reduces as you drop down the cassette. The result is a bike that is more confidence inspiring everywhere on the hill. It behaves itself on the climbs yet can still be thrashed through the roughest and most technical terrain on the way back down. The Megawatt also has a wide SAG range (30%-35%) to allow the rider to tune the characteristics of the bike to their preferences.
DURABLE AND LIGHTWEIGHT ALLOY FRAME WITH INTERNAL BATTERY:
The Megawatt was designed from the outset to optimise the performance of the Shimano EP801 Motor and battery. Crafted from hydroformed 6061 aluminium, the Megawatt shares characteristics and tube shapes with its Mega sibling but features several notable differences. A one-piece cast aluminium bottom bracket shell was to house the Shimano STEPS EP801 motor. The downtube has been optimised for maximise strength and rigidity, whilst providing easy access to remove the internal battery for charging or transportation.
The Megawatt 297 RS/ Factory and Elite use the all-new Shimano 630Wh battery. This can be exchanged for the EP801’s smaller 504Wh battery by using the Megawatt’s adjustable mount system (stock on all specifications). The Comp model comes fitted with the 504Wh battery. All bikes include a Shimano battery charger and adaptor to allow both on bike and off the bike charging using either the Euro or UK charging cables included.
The Megawatt: A Mega with an engine. Designed so you can maximise the amount of time spent descending by getting you back to the top faster, again and again (and again).

Ready to ride
Every bike from Start Fitness is fully checked & assembled before despatch and will arrive, almost, ready to ride. Each bike is assembled by one of our CyTech accredited mechanics and then packed into one of our custom boxes.
*This process has a lead time of 3-5 working days.
Unfortunately during peak times this may be slightly delayed. We will however, aim to despatch your bike as quickly as possible. Minimal assembly, with basic tools, is required before you can ride. Assembly tools are not usually included.
Making sure you are home
Once fully checked and boxed, we will contact you to arrange a suitable delivery date when you will be home to take delivery. Our bikes are despatched with a premium delivery service which usually delivers next working day (excludes weekends & bank holidays) for mainland UK orders, it may take slightly longer for some areas, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and outlying Scottish areas. European bike deliveries usually take approximately one week.
Taking Delivery
Any mechanical or cosmetic issues need to be reported to us within one week of the delivery date. If you do not plan on using the bike straight away, we advise that you remove it from the box and check it over ASAP as we cannot be responsible for any reported issues (other than standard warranty issues) later than one week from the date that the bicycle was delivered.
First Service
After a few weeks of riding (we recommend around 6-8 weeks, regardless of how much the bike has been used), a new bike will need a service to make final adjustments and to re-check all nuts and bolts. This is necessary as the bike goes through a ‘bedding in’ phase, after which, final adjustment may be necessary. We recommend that this is carried out by a CyTech qualified mechanic.
It is important to have these checks carried out to prevent any avoidable problems which may not be covered by warranty and to ensure the smooth running of your bicycle. If you’re local to us, we’re able to offer this first service free of charge* at our Newcastle store (NE1 6JE). You’ll just need to call our workshop on 0191 917 3825 to book your service in, and don’t forget to bring your proof of purchase when you drop the bike off with us.
If you’ve had the bike delivered, it will be your responsibility to ensure a first service is carried out at a trusted bike shop local to you, preferably by a Cytech certified mechanic. Start Fitness are unfortunately not able to cover any costs associated with this service if carried out by another store.
*Please note that this complimentary check-over does not include any labour to replace worn parts or to fit new accessories. All bikes should be delivered to us in a clean and serviceable condition, or a £15 cleaning charge will be payable.
Bike Servicing
Bicycles need to be serviced regularly, as a guideline we would advise on at least one full service per year and/or a standard service twice a year. If the bike is used regularly in adverse conditions, more regular servicing may be required.
