Via a special reinforcement rib (such as in the full-carbon forks of road bikes), MERIDA competently combines two different technological characteristics which seem to be completely contradictory at the first sight: Outstanding torsion-stiffness data for maximum handling quality and safety on the one hand, a certain damping flexibility on the other. In this effective way, MERIDA forks become equally safe and comfortable.
Carbon bikes are often subject to considerable strain. To increase the quality of the used material, MERIDA utilizes this premium technology: The carbon mats are enriched with special nanoparticles which strengthen the matrix of the epoxy resin. In this way, the impact resistance of the final component construction can be increased successfully by up to 40 %. “Nano Matrix Carbon” refines all MERIDA high-end bikes of Model Year 2014.
The best of two worlds: externally shaped head tube with bigger diameter at the bottom and weight saving smaller diameter at the top. ‘X-Taper Headtubes’ always come with tapered forks or correct adapters fitted. Result: superb stiffness and precise steering even in the toughest conditions without increasing the weight of the frame unnecessarily.
Elaborately shaped frame designs with special inlets and outlets for internally routed brake and/or shifter cables. “Clean” in a double sense: The bike looks uncluttered while the cables are protected effectively from moisture and dirt.
Road bikes and MTB hardtails lack a suspension system at the rear. In this way, they do not only reach their low weight but turn each pilot-provided watt into propulsion. Yet a rigid rearstay transmits any shocks directly to the rider as well – this affects the athlete’s performance potential. But not in the case of our “Flex Stay” seat and chain stays: Their special design absorbs surface bumps and reduces occurring vibrations.
  • AWS
Anti Wrinkle System – Due to its technological characteristics, carbon provides designers and developers with many excellent possibilities which are not offered by other raw materials used for bike building (e. g. aluminium). The special surface structure is particularly fascinating – but what does happen inside the frame? MERIDA utilizes specific mould inserts which reduce the wrinkling considerably. Result: More stiffness and durability but less weight.
Rigid carbon front fork, in case of some models realized as full-carbon version. MERIDA carbon forks delight with outstanding vibration damping as well as with superb braking and lateral stiffness. Reliable steering and braking performance in every situation.
Like WorldTour pro riders, more and more technology-loving road riders trust in Shimano’s electronic Di2 shifting system, which is characterized by high reliability and efficient, effortless operability. Bikes/frames with the symbol “Di2 Ready” are optimally prepared for the installation of this technology – especially with a battery mounting possibility below the chain stay or in the seat post.

Ready to ride
Every bike from Start Fitness is fully checked & assembled before despatch and will arrive, almost, ready to ride. Each bike is assembled by one of our CyTech accredited mechanics and then packed into one of our custom boxes. Minimal assembly, with basic tools, is required before you can ride. Assembly tools are not usually included. More details can be found here.
Please note: Some bikes are not supplied with pedals. Manufacturers don’t know if you want flat or clipless pedals, rather than send the bike with the wrong type, they leave the choice for you to make.
This process has a lead time of around 1-2 working days
Unfortunately during peak times this may be slightly delayed. We will however, aim to despatch your bike as quickly as possible.
Making sure you are home
Once fully checked and boxed, we will contact you to book a delivery date. Our bikes are despatched on a next working day service (excludes weekends & bank holidays) for UK mainland orders, or a two day service to Northern Ireland and outlying Scottish areas. European bike deliveries usually take approximately one week.
Taking Delivery
Any mechanical or cosmetic issues need to be reported to us within one week of the delivery date. If you do not plan on using the bike straight away, we advise that you remove it from the box and check it over ASAP as we cannot be responsible for any reported issues (other than standard warranty issues) later than one week from the date that the bicycle was delivered.
First Check-Over
After a few weeks of riding (depending on riding style and conditions), a new bike will need a check-over to make final adjustments and to re-check all nuts and bolts. This is necessary as the bike goes through a ‘bedding in’ phase after which, final adjustment may be necessary. We recommend that this is carried out by a CyTech qualified mechanic. It is important to have these checks carried out to prevent any avoidable problems which may not be covered by warranty and to ensure the smooth running of the bicycle.
We can carry out the first check-over free of charge, at our Newcastle store (NE16JE). If you’ve had the bike delivered, it will be your responsibility to get the bicycle to and from our store for this work to be carried out. This complimentary check-over does not include any labour to replace worn parts or to fit new accessories.
All bikes must be booked in for the first service & must be clean or a £15 cleaning charge will be payable. You can book this by calling 0191 261 4191. Proof of purchase will need to be presented when the bicycle is dropped off for the first check-over.
Bike Servicing
Bicycles need to be serviced regularly, as a guideline we would advise on at least one full service per year and/or a standard service twice a year. If the bike is used regularly in adverse conditions, more regular servicing may be required.

Customer Reviews

fitted my requirements perfectly Review by Robert
I already own a Merida Mtb so it was an obvious place to start to look when I wanted a Road Bike. I did compare to other manufacturers and Giant and Ribble Cycles ended up in the top 3. For what I wanted the bike for the Ribble was described as stiffer and racier than I needed so that left Giant and Merida. The Giant would have given me Disk Brakes but cost £300 more for virtually same weight and spec. So I decided to put the cash saved to a pair os SIDI shoes and 105 Pedals and other bits and pieces of new kit.
The bike came in a huge box :-) but very well packaged and fully set up except securing the handle bars which is not a hard job.
I've ridden about 120 KM since getting it and have only had to adjust the rear much once which is pretty typical as the wires bed in. Brakes have been great from the first ride.
May be its me and my 30 year gap of getting back on a road bike but the saddle that came with it just didn't fit me comfortably and I swapped it after the first ride for the same brand as I have on my MTB and am much happier.
The bike is incredibly light and getting up hills is only limited by my inability.
The gearing is great, wide enough to help me in the climbs and small enough to catch cars in a local smooth down hill 30 mph zone :-)
I would strongly recommend buying a torq wrench if you don't own one already and this is your first carbon framed bike. The torq settings at marked by al the major bolts on the frame and its carbon so you have to be respectful of the material used.
I've given 4* on quality for a couple of reasons. Personally I didn't find the saddle it came with comfortable, The price saving has come at the choice of own brand brake callipers, The guides to bring that cables into the frame were not fixed in place and came loose straight away. All of these are totally solvable and do not change the fact this is a great light comfortable carbon framed bike for a very competitive low price. (Posted on 13/04/2017)
