Ready to ride
Every bike from Start Fitness is fully checked & assembled before despatch and will arrive, almost, ready to ride. Each bike is assembled by one of our CyTech accredited mechanics and then packed into one of our custom boxes. Minimal assembly, with basic tools, is required before you can ride. Assembly tools are not usually included. More details can be found here.
Please note: Some bikes are not supplied with pedals. Manufacturers don’t know if you want flat or clipless pedals, rather than send the bike with the wrong type, they leave the choice for you to make.
This process has a lead time of around 2-3 working days
Unfortunately during peak times this may be slightly delayed. We will however, aim to despatch your bike as quickly as possible.
Making sure you are home
Once fully checked and boxed, we will contact you to book a delivery date. Our bikes are despatched on a next working day service (excludes weekends & bank holidays) for UK mainland orders, or a two day service to Northern Ireland and outlying Scottish areas. European bike deliveries usually take approximately one week.
Taking Delivery
Any mechanical or cosmetic issues need to be reported to us within one week of the delivery date. If you do not plan on using the bike straight away, we advise that you remove it from the box and check it over ASAP as we cannot be responsible for any reported issues (other than standard warranty issues) later than one week from the date that the bicycle was delivered.
First Check-Over
After a few weeks of riding (depending on riding style and conditions), a new bike will need a check-over to make final adjustments and to re-check all nuts and bolts. This is necessary as the bike goes through a ‘bedding in’ phase after which, final adjustment may be necessary. We recommend that this is carried out by a CyTech qualified mechanic. It is important to have these checks carried out to prevent any avoidable problems which may not be covered by warranty and to ensure the smooth running of the bicycle.
We can carry out the first check-over free of charge, at our Newcastle store (NE16JE). If you’ve had the bike delivered, it will be your responsibility to get the bicycle to and from our store for this work to be carried out. This complimentary check-over does not include any labour to replace worn parts or to fit new accessories.
All bikes must be booked in for the first service & must be clean or a £15 cleaning charge will be payable. You can book this by calling 0191 261 4191. Proof of purchase will need to be presented when the bicycle is dropped off for the first check-over.
Bike Servicing
Bicycles need to be serviced regularly, as a guideline we would advise on at least one full service per year and/or a standard service twice a year. If the bike is used regularly in adverse conditions, more regular servicing may be required.

Customer Reviews

A great do it all bike Review by Clive
Really pleased with bike, can handle any surface, fun to ride. Good spec for price. I'm 5'11", 34 inside leg. 54cm bike is spot on for me. Would happily use Startfitness again. Good customer care.
Thanks. (Posted on 17/04/2017)
Good all round bike at reasonable price Review by Robert
The Merida 2016 CX 500 105 is a reasonable frame with a good component mix given a retail price under £1000.
Handling and comfort are good and everything is easy to get at. Good support from Start Cycles. (Posted on 28/03/2017)
Best bike I have owned. Review by Martyn
Although I own several mountain and road bikes I wanted to try a cyclocross bike for my winter commutes, which includes some farm field bridleways. As I spotted this bike on a discount, last year' s model, I went for it. It has lived up to all I expected, excellent gears and reasonably light farmeset. Value for money score is 5/5. Good delivery times too, safely packaged with no damage. Well done Start Fitness. (Posted on 02/02/2017)
Very good cross bike Review by Nick
This is one very good bike for the money, I have had a few bikes in my time but this was the first complete bike (other than a full MTB) I have ever had, preferring to get frames and components individually. I have changed a few things on this bike though, 700x40 tyres for instance which I feel will give a more assured ride on rough ground and a medium cage rear gear so it can take a 32 sprocket, this is partly as I intend to use this for adventure cross. I have also got rid of the centre mount brake levers, I really can't see the point of those? and a different saddle.
So, the frame is amazing for the price and would not be out of place on a bike costing twice as much, i cannot fault it in terms of finish or style, I have a,ready taken it on some punishing tracks and it just soaks it up, OK the wheels are where the costs have been saved, they run true and the bearings are smooth, they are a bit on the heavy side and not overly stiff, with some disc rub on the front out of the saddle but they will do. The brakes are very good, I am not a fan of disc brakes but these mechanical ones are easy to set up and adjust and work well enough. Overall the bike handles very well, put it into a corner and it goes where you want it and stays there, it handles better than I thought it would. I would thoroughly recommend this bike for gravel riding and for racing cross with the correct size tyres (Posted on 22/09/2016)
