Definite Improvement on Forerunner 10 Review by David

Good - Battery life, HR monitor, different exercise modes, elastic strap, picks up GPS quite quickly, records sleep patterns, Bluetooth connecttion

Other - HR sometimes produces odd readings - usually in the early stages of a run - may be down to me as an individual though, no average HR reading provided as an option, Garmin Connect does not always record a night's sleep, looks a bit functional

Overall a significant improvement on my previous Forerunner 10 albeit at greater cost (Posted on 28/02/2018)
Good all-round GPS watch with all the basics well covered Review by Phil

I bought this watch as an upgrade from my first ever GPS watch, a Garmin Forerunner 110. Of particular interest was the wrist-based HR measurement, as the 110 required a chest strap (which is OK, but one more thing to remember, find, and put on). I figured that some of the other features offered by the 35, such as the cadence measurement and virtual pacer, would be helpful too.
The watch arrived promptly and partially charged, which is apparently Garmin's standard practice; certainly there was enough charge to carry out all the basic configuration before charging from USB via the supplied clip cable. Charging to full only took around an hour. The instructions are lengthy, which is reasonable since the watch does so much, but there's a quick-start guide which gets you going very quickly and is easy to follow. Within a few minutes I'd downloaded the smartphone app and paired my phone to the watch.
The watch is easy to fasten and comfortable to wear. The strap has a stretchy feel that keeps the watch tight to the wrist, which it needs to be for the heart rate measurement. Time will tell how long-lived the strap will be, but (unlike the Forerunner 110) I've seen replacements available for around a tenner and they can be DIY-fitted.
Using the watch in its most basic (Free Run) mode for me seemed straightforward, the display is very clear even in broad daylight, and the buttons are logical and easy to use. The data display screens are basic in layout, but you can choose the data they contain if the default doesn't work for you.
The heart rate measurement is not quite as accurate as the previous strap-based system I had, in particular it doesn't respond to changes quite so quickly, so if you do a lot of interval training where HR is important to you, that might be an issue for you. It doesn't bother me, I much prefer the convenience of the wrist-based system.
One issue that has arisen with HR measurement, however, is so-called 'cadence-lock'. When HR approaches similar numbers to my cadence (paces per minute) the HR sensor is prone to start measuring cadence instead. When HR drops sufficiently, it snaps back to measuring HR again. I've read that many other users have had this issue too. However, it doesn't happen often enough to be an issue for me.
The watch does much more including fitness tracking (e.g. steps measurement etc), music, smartphone notifications etc., none of which I use so I can't comment on these aspects.
Overall, though, I'm very pleased with the watch - so much so that I bought my girlfriend the same watch. It covers all of my needs and more, without a high price tag or a baffling array of information and options that I'll never use. (Posted on 05/01/2018)
Best value GPS running watch, period. Review by Avnish

The price is very competitive for what it offers. Being able to leave your phone at home and not worry about getting wet or reaching into your pocket to pause your run or just get a quick glance at your pace/cadence is 100% worth the investment. Beeps every kilometer or mile to let you know your splits, can be set up for walk/run, target calories or time and you'll be duly notified.

Been using this watch for a month now, logged close to 100Km with it, working just as it did the day I got it. I didn't know if I would regret spending a little more for a gps watch with heart rate tracking and I'm glad to say I don't. I grew to love looking over the data after a run and get insight into how hard my heart was working during a run. If you want to train by heart rate - this is more suited to steady runs. Intervals - HR data is delayed and won't be as useful.

TL;DR : Workhorse with great battery life with all the features any runner wouldl need - at a great value. Less flashy and fun than the more expensive 230/235 but I value information over bling. (Posted on 19/03/2017)
